Sad news from the Association:  Our elder, Gin Wee Sum passed away on April 27, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital in San Francisco. He has been in failing health for some time.   Even though his health was noticeably poor during this year's New Year Banquet, he still managed to get up to the stage at the Banquet to sing karaoke.  He died of lung cancer and was 81.  We will miss him very much and his voice of wisdom.

Scholarship application for the 2010 year is now open again.  We suggest interested family members access the Scholarship page and put in their application soon.  In any case, application closes July 16th, 2010.

We have just updated the New York Gin Sun Hall Association Page -- worth a visit to see what our New York cousins have been up to in 2007.

  • We celebrate the Anniversary of our Home Page: It is over a year since we launched our Home Page.  We are delighted that our modest beginning has attracted a number of visits from family members and friends alike.  Our aim is to continue with our work, to further improve our virtual meeting place of the Gin Family Association.

  • Ching Ming 淸明掃墓: The Association's annual Ching Ming festival with visitations to the two Ning Yung (寜陽) Cemeteries in Colma to pay respects to our ancestors is scheduled for Sunday, March 30, 2008. The chartered bus will be load at 10:15 a.m. at the corner of Kearney and Clay Streets (one black west of the Association) and depart at 10:30 a.m. All interested members and their families are invited to participate. The bus will return to Chinatown by 2:30 p.m.
  • Election of 2008 Officers for the Gin Sun Hall Benevolent Association of San Francisco now complete. For details, see the San Francisco page, under the "Association" and then "Americas" page.
